Innovative lamb producer Sam Hayes has enjoyed her first taste of NSW Farmers’ Association activities after attending the Young Farmers’ Forum

Sam hails from the family owned Rowallan Pastoral Company located near the Mirrool Creek between West Wyalong and Narranderra and headed to Homebush to get involved with other young farmers.
Sam has completed a Masters in Communications at the University of Technology, Sydney, and is heavily involved in the family farm business, taking on a role
in the distribution and marketing of Mirrool Creek Lamb. The prime lamb product is popular in numerous markets in the Sydney Basin region and restaurants.
Sam said she was thrilled to see a Mirrool Creek Lamb featured in the Association’s second annual Regional Food Fair.
The Mirrool Creek Lamb crusted with hazelnut dukkah on cumin shortbread proved to be a big hit with Annual
Conference delegates.
“What a great event (Regional Food Fair) that was,” Sam exclaimed. “We hope to continue to increase our
brand recognition and become a major branded lamb competitor. However, there is a fine line between growth of the company and maintaining integrity of the product."

Sam decided to attend the Young Farmers’ Forum this year to take advantage of the opportunity to network with other young farmers and get in touch with the grass roots of the rural industry in NSW.

Sam’s parents, Bill and Deirdre have been Members of the Association since 1986. “Although my parents are Members of the Association, I didn’t have much of an idea of what the Association was about, let alone the Young Farmers’ Forum”. However, since attending the Forum, Sam saw the benefits of the Association and became interested in joining the Sheepmeats Committee to make a positive contribution to her industry and to help
develop a young farmer network.
Sam said the forum enabled her to liaise with other industry bodies such as the RAS and promote branded lamb through entering the RAS Fine Foods Competition at next year’s Sydney Royal Show.
